There are many types of tents according to the needs of use

Update:18 Mar
There are many types of tents according to the needs of use, such as camping, mountain, beach, fishing, hunting, disaster relief, jungle, military, etc. The following mainly talks about the materials and design of camping tents.

Camping and mountaineering tents generally use light and thin polyester and nylon fabrics, which will be light to carry and can improve the density of the fabric in the warp and weft directions. High-end tents abroad use 210T to 300T, and the higher the density, the higher the water resistance will be. However, if the density is too high, the wire is also required to be thin, so that the strength will be reduced.

There are many kinds of outer tent coatings. Camping and mountaineering outdoor tents generally use PU, PE and silver-coated, and PU is the most ideal. The waterproof index of the outer tent is generally 800~2500mmH2O, too high will affect the breathability of the tent, and foreign high-end tents are rarely above 2500. And the waterproof index of the tent is only a dynamic waterproof index, not a hydrostatic pressure index. 2500mmH2O is only the instantaneous water pressure when the rain falls. If you use 2500 water column, it will definitely leak. The outer tents of most of the tents I have used will be soaked in the rain for a long time. At this time, the design of the double-layer tent reflects its advantages. The water droplets collected on the inside of the outer tent will slide to the ground. According to these characteristics, it is recommended not to choose a single-layer tent for camping and mountaineering, because the water droplets of the single-layer tent will slide into the tent.

Camping and mountaineering tents generally use light and thin polyester, nylon, polyester-cotton breathable fabrics. The advantage of polyester-cotton is that it has good hygroscopicity, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to mold. The advantage of polyester and nylon is that it is easy to care for. Some inner tents are large-area mesh fabrics. The advantage is good ventilation, but the disadvantage is that the light is too transparent. In summer, only the inner tent can be used.

Camping, mountaineering tent materials with PE, ordinary nylon, Oxford cloth. Low-grade PE bottom, PE is not wear-resistant, easy to age and become brittle. The ripstop nylon bottom is used in alpine tents. The advantages are light, but the disadvantages are poor wear resistance and easy to puncture. The Oxford cloth bottom is the most mature. Oxford cloth is nominally based on the thickness index D of silk. 210D is thicker than 150D, and the wear resistance is relatively better, but the weight is relatively increased. The higher the waterproof index of the base material, the better, generally 2000~50000mmH2O.

The poles of camping and mountaineering tents generally use fiberglass poles and aluminum poles. The advantage of fiberglass rod is that it is cheap, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to age, brittle, break, and heavy. The advantages of aluminum rods are light and strong, but the disadvantage is that they are expensive.

The outer tent is tightened by the rubber rope of the ground nails, and the inner tent of the tent pole should be slightly loose, so that there is some room for expansion under the strong wind.

Notes on the use of mountaineering tents:

1. When setting up a tent, the outer tent must be straightened to avoid contact with the inner tent, and the water droplets on the inside of the waterproof outer tent penetrate into the inner tent;

2. The tent should not be exposed to the sun at high temperature, and the base cloth should not be placed on the beach and the ground at high temperature, which can prevent the aging of PU and avoid the decline of waterproof performance;

3. When closing the tent, roll it slowly and drive away the air in the tent in a directional way. If the air rolls the tent without an outlet, the air can only break through the waterproof layer and come out, which will greatly affect the waterproof performance.
